HPD Registration

What if I fail to register with HPD?

Failing to register each year with HPD can have serious impacts on your property. HPD will issue Class I Violations/Commissioner’s Orders to properties that have not registered. They may also impose fines ($250 – 500) via housing court.

Perhaps the most significant penalties are restrictions given for failing to have current registration. Properties that are not registered are unable to correct HPD violations, bring actions against tenants for nonpayment of rent, file dismissal requests, or request violation reissuances. These restrictions could be highly detrimental to residential buildings, and have long-lasting effects.
