What is a Letter of No Objection?

Buildings before 1983 are not required to have a Certificate of Occupancy unless later alterations changed their use, egress, or occupancy. The city can issue Letters of No Objection as proof of legal use for CO-exempt properties. The building must comply with NYC Building Codes and Zoning regulations, and the occupancy load/exits must remain unchanged in order for a Letter to be issued.
