The DOHMH announced an expansion of the 2008 rule that requires chain restaurants to post calorie counts.
Starting May 22nd, the Department of Health will begin enforcing calorie count and nutritional value postings for chain convenience stores and supermarkets that serve prepared foods. The new rule also requires chain restaurants to post nutritional values in addition to calorie counts.
After an education and adoption period, the city will issue violations for noncompliance starting on August 21st. Accompanying fines for this infraction will range from $200 – $600.
