Petroleum Bulk Storage (PBS) tanks are regulated in New York State (including within the City). Tanks must be registered under a facility (the site address) and registration fees must be renewed and paid every 5 years.
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) automatically sends renewal reminders prior to registration expiration to the facility owner listed on the previous registration. Failure to renew registration or complete initial registration will result in a violation issued by the State DEC.
You can review the policy for PBS enforcement here. Please note that DEC violations are not issued by New York City agencies, and not affiliated with ECB fines or hearings.
