What is required for private residential elevator devices?

Private residential elevator devices are required to undergo Category 1 and Category 5 (if applicable) tests. Third party witnesses are not needed for either filing (unlike all other device types).

All private residential elevators maintain a “J – No jurisdiction” status. Several “JVIOS” violations were issued in 2010 for failure to submit a Category 1 inspection.
