Another year means another season for cooling tower summertime reminders!
Here are resources & best practices for NYC cooling towers, including the summertime hyperhalogenation requirement due from July 1 – August 31st.
Summertime Hyperhalogenation
Summertime hyperhalogenation is an additional annual requirement for cooling tower maintenance, aimed at reducing risk of Legionella growth during the warmer summer months. Specifically, this requirement involves a dosing of higher-than-normal levels of chlorine or bromine-based biocide between July 1 and August 31. Following that, a Legionella sample must be collected between 3 and 45 days after the application.
This sample can satisfy 90-day legionella requirements, and must be submitted in the NYC Registration Portal within 5 days of collection.
