The Department of Buildings just announced new elevator violations for the 2024 cycle. Here’s what that means for your buildings.
2024 Elevator Violations
Per their recent Service Notice, violations for Category 1 and periodic elevator filings are coming this Fall. The following violations will be issued in September and October:
- Failure to file Category 1 inspections
- Failure to correct (submit affirmations of correction) for Category 1 inspections
- Failure to file Periodic Inspections
- Failure to correct (submit affirmations of correction) for Periodic inspections
All of the above violations are issued per device, and carry a $3,000 penalty.
Correction Instructions
You’ll see any issued violations in your team’s SiteCompli or InCheck account
Violations can be corrected in the DOB NOW: Safety portal by selecting + Violation Payments > Elevators. You can see additional instructions, plus instructions for submitting penalty waivers, on the Service Notice.
Current Cycle
We’re only a couple months out from the end of the 2025 inspections cycle – there’s no better time to make sure your team has inspections coordinated and on schedule.
You can review elevator requirements for the current and previous cycles, and make sure you’re on track in multiple locations in your SiteCompli or InCheck account:
- Interactive Dashboard Widget
- Executive Summary Report featuring elevator details (with exciting enhancements coming soon – stay tuned!)
- Elevator Records page to view and filter information by device
- Elevator Inspections page to view and filter all filings
The best way to prevent elevator penalties is to make sure everyone’s on the same page, and knows what they’re responsible for. Tracking requirements in Compliance Manager is a good way to manage elevator filings alongside other city requirements. You can also add your trusted elevator consultants and vendors to your account to ensure they receive alerts and can communicate with your team.
