Local Law 97 Extension Deadline Now December 31st

One June 16th, the DOB announced a new Local Law 97 extension deadline through the end of the year. Here’s what that means, and how you can take advantage of it for your buildings.

New Extension Deadline

Per the DOB’s Service Notice, approved extension requests for Local Law 97 filings will now be effective through December 31, 2025.

This is a change from the previous extension deadline, which was August 29th (which is now the deadline for filing extension requests). Per the Service Notice, any extension requests already submitted will automatically be effective until December 31st.

Important: you must submit an extension request to file reports through the end of the year. Otherwise, the due date for filing Local Law 97 (and Local Law 88) is June 30th – the end of the original grace period. It’s slightly confusing, given that extension applications can be filed through August 29th (which comes after June 30th), so we recommend filing for an extension as soon as possible.

Note that per the DOB, “LL84 deadlines remain unchanged. LL84 reports are due June 30, 2025, or on August 29, 2025, for buildings who receive an LL97 extension.” June 30th is also the filing deadline for buildings required to comply with Local Law 88 who do not have to submit Local Law 97 this year. You can view the Service Notice for more details on Local Law 88, including information on good faith efforts for compliance.

How To Apply

In order to get the extended deadline, teams can submit a ticket before August 29th.

Click here to access the form for submitting an extension request ticket. You’ll need the following details:

  • Building address, Borough-Block-Lot (BBL) and Building Identification Number (BIN)
  • Confirmation of Registered Design Professional (RDP) or Qualified Retro-Commissioning (RCx) Agent attestation and upload of attestation documentation, if applicable
  • DOB NOW Payment Confirmation Number. (i.e. 97320EXTxxxxxxx or 97321EXTxxxxxxx)
    • It’s a good idea to submit payment in DOB NOW before you fill out the form, as outlined by the Requests Guide below. This will give you the above confirmation number you can enter into the form

Review the DOB’s Extension Requests Guide for more details.
