What are common FDNY Notices of Violation?

Notices of Violation are frequently issued for administrative conditions (failure to pay/post permit, failure to get inspection, failure to have required documents or certification), but they can also be issued for imminent safety hazards.

Common Notices of Violation include the following:

  • VC 3 – Failure to obtain/renew/possess permits
  • VC 12 – Unwarranted Fire Alarm
  • VC 17 – Failure to obtain and/or possess required Certificate of Fitness
  • VC 20 – Failure to conduct required inspection/test
