FDNY Violations

What is an FDNY Notice of Violation?

An FDNY Notice of Violation is an infraction issued by the Fire Department in conjunction with an Environmental Control Board (ECB) hearing, and possible fine. FDNY-ECB violations are issued to a named respondent (individual, entity, or company), but are tied to properties in the FDNY’s records.

The violation will include any noted infractions (known as Violating Conditions, or specific FDNY rules), a future hearing date, and a possible cure date.

FDNY Notices of Violation may sometimes say “FDNY Summons” at the top of the violation copy. This is not the same as an FDNY Criminal Summons, and should still be resolved as a Notice of Violation.
