DOB Announces Boiler Violations For 2023 Cycle

A recent DOB Service Notice announced boiler violations for 2023 following the initial release of elevator infractions for cyclical inspections. Here’s what owners and managers should expect, and how to clear these violations.

Cyclical Violations This Fall

After last year’s massive 5-cycle violation issuance, the DOB is now issuing cyclical violations for elevators and boilers on an annual basis. Generally, we should expect violations for any given inspection cycle (in this case, 2023) within the following year.

For example, the DOB announced violations for elevator inspections for the 2023 cycle were coming in the fall – and they were just recently issued. If you’re a SiteCompli or InCheck user, you can see any of these in your account on the DOB Violations page. Just filter for Elevator-1 Year and Periodic type violations – and note that the DOB didn’t include issue dates with these infractions, as of now.

When it comes to 2023 boiler inspections, a similar mass issuance for failure to file (coming in September) and failure to correct (coming in October) will happen soon. As a reminder, annual boiler inspections are due before December 31st each year. There are different requirements for high-pressure and low-pressure boilers, and requirements to file corrections in a timely manner as needed. You can get more information on full inspection requirements here, on the DOB’s site.

How To Correct

First, it’s important to note that violations will not be dismissed unless an accepted, current annual boiler inspection report or affirmation of correction (as applicable) is filed in DOB NOW: Safety.

Boiler violations can be paid in DOB NOW: Safety. Navigate to the Violations portal, then select +Violations Payments and Boilers. You can find the violation by searching for the device number, address, BIN, or specific violation number. From there, select the device number and click +Add to start the process. Save the application, complete Statements & Signature, and then Proceed to Pay to complete the payment. For more details and accepted forms of payment, view the full Service Notice.

Instructions on penalty waivers can be found on the Service Notice, linked here.
