Why is it important to stay on top of façade inspections?

In late 2019, the DOB passed several new regulations that increased enforcement on unsafe facades and missing facade inspections. Failure to correct unsafe facades could result in penalties of $1,000/month. That's in addition to the $5,000 penalty for failing to submit the 5-year FISP report.

Failure to maintain compliance with façade inspections may also cause the building to be liable in the case of any accidents or emergencies regarding the building’s exterior and any appurtenances. That's especially critical in light of the recent NYC fatalities involving unsafe facades.
