How do I resolve a PVT violation?

As of Jan 1, 2022, PVT violations are no longer issued by private elevator companies hired by the DOB. Building owners are responsible for performing and submitting their own periodic inspections each year. You can read more here, in the December DOB update on our blog  or via the DOB's service notice.

The below copy references the previous method for closing PVT violations. We'll leave this up as a reference for older violations.

In order to resolve a PVT, the underlying issues must be corrected by a private elevator company (unless the violating condition pertains to a building item). From there, the owner/a representative must file an Affirmation of Correction with the Department of Buildings certifying that the issues have been corrected (along with a $40 filing fee). Alternatively, a Satisfactory Category 1 Annual Inspection will clear outstanding PVTs, though this administrative removal process will take more time than submitting an Affirmation of Correction.

To get a copy of the PVT and determine the underlying issues, contact pvtcopies@buildings.nyc.gov .

If the PVT is marked hazardous (or was issued for no access to the device or machine room), a Certified Elevator Inspection Company must submit a letter to the Elevator Unit indicating the corrections made and requesting a re-inspection.

You can contact eleoldvios@buildings.nyc.gov for more information about dismissing older PVT violations.
