The Department of Buildings has announced an extension for Energy Efficiency Reports (EERs) due in 2025.
Any buildings required to file EERs in 2025 (with a last block digit of 5) now have until March 31, 2026 to comply. Per the DOB’s service notice, this extension is for the 2025 filing year only. This means any properties in 2026 still have to file by December 31, 2026.
Failing to submit EERs on time can result in significant penalties, with $3,000 for the first year, and $5,000 for each subsequent year a report is not filed. With 10 years in between report filings, fines can add up quickly.
Please note – as of press time, no additional extensions have been announced for Local Law 97 reports. If an extension was applied for here, the due date is still December 31st. Updated Energy Efficiency Labels for LL 84 covered buildings must also be printed and posted before the end of 2025.
You can view covered building list eligibility for all your properties, along with relevant filing years, here in your SiteCompli or InCheck account. You can also get more information about Energy Efficiency Reports at the DOB’s website here.
